Reflections
We are over half way through our graduate class in Web 2.0 Based Learning and Performance, and I thought I'd take a moment to reflect on things I've learned.
The diversity of Web 2.0 tools is amazing, and a bit overwhelming in the time it takes to review each tool, try to quickly learn its functionalities, synergies with other tools and its limitations, and then decide how it can facilitate my work. In this regard, it has come down to refining my criteria and focusing on tools that I can use versus what is available.
I also am learning to deal with the aggravation that algorithms cause as a social media user. If I don't tweet enough, then my tweets may not show up in the class twitter feed because they are weighted by quantity, etc. But I still tweet.
As a visual learner, I especially appreciate the Instagram app which I already use daily to view shared photos/videos, and Pinterest as a splendid way to develop vision boards, organize content, and research and get ideas for almost anything.
The collaborative learning and discussion tools such as Piazza for classes and NowComment for collaborative document creation/editing are intriguing. And I could get lost in Reddit discussion threads if I had more time. And I love Quora as an aggregator of topics I'm interested in.
What I understand is that there are plenty of social media tools, and I am now looking forward to learning more about networked knowledge activities, and other definitive ways these tools can be used in instructional learning and performance improvement.
I envy your approach. In my work, I can only use 'approved' tools and there are very few.
